OCTG 7″ 32# 13CR 80 VAM TOP HC R3

13 Chrome L80 (UNS S42000) is a quenched and tempered martensitic stainless steel offering reliable corrosion resistance in sweet (CO₂) and mildly sour (H₂S) environments up to 300°F. Qualified under API 5CT (Group 2, Grade L80, Type 13Cr), it’s ideal for downhole tubulars, packers, and subsurface equipment. Designed to meet NACE MR0175 standards, it performs well in mildly corrosive conditions, with recommended H₂S limits of 1.5 psi at pH ≥ 3.5. VAM TOP® HC™ is a derivative connection of VAM TOP®. VAM TOP® HC™ (High Compression) is a Threaded & Coupled (T&C) premium connection which has been designed with the main features of the VAM TOP® product line. VAM TOP® and VAM TOP® HC™ are interchangeable. VAM TOP® HC™ product lines benefit from the most reliable performances, demonstrated through a large number of qualification tests such as ISO13679 CAL-IV with up to 100% PBYS compression rating.​

Alloy Description

13 Chrome is a quenched and tempered martensitic stainless steel primarily used for corrosion resistance in environments with CO2 (sweet) and mild H2S (sour) exposure, with an operational temperature limit of up to 300°F. It is commonly applied in downhole tubular components, packers, and other subsurface equipment. This material is included in API 5CT as Group 2, Grade L80, Type 13Cr, and its yield strength and hardness are controlled to meet NACE MR0175 requirements.

While 13 Chrome L80 offers effective resistance in mildly corrosive conditions, its performance can be limited by factors such as pH, chloride concentration, temperature, and H2S content. According to NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, it is recommended for environments with a maximum H2S partial pressure of 1.5 psi and a pH ≥ 3.5 (refer to Table A.19).
