OCTG 4.5″ 13.5# 13CR-85 Plain End R3

Crafted from 13 Chrome L80 (UNS S42000), this high-performance tubing delivers reliable corrosion resistance in CO₂ (sweet) and mild H₂S (sour) environments up to 300°F. Engineered for downhole applications, it provides the strength and durability needed for critical subsurface components, including packers. Fully compliant with NACE MR0175 and API 5CT, this tubing is ideal for moderately corrosive conditions with up to 1.5 psi H₂S and pH ≥3.5.

During this phase of PipeFacts™, material is received into one of our regional storage and inspection hubs, and we put material through a more detailed inspection. Our teams of inspectors inspects the pipe body for traceability and potential body defects and inspects the threads while a quality team in the office evaluates the as produced specification of the material test reports (MTRs).

Disclaimer: The burst and collapse figures displayed are based on the API dimension tolerance of 87.5% of nominal wall thickness. Note that martensitic, duplex, super duplex, and nickel alloys often have tighter dimensional tolerances, therefore, increased strength ratings. The properties do not factor connection performance ratings. If your application requires more information ratings, please contact our technical services team, and we happily assist you.

Alloy Description

13 Chrome is a quenched and tempered martensitic stainless steel primarily used for corrosion resistance in environments with CO2 (sweet) and mild H2S (sour) exposure, with an operational temperature limit of up to 300°F. It is commonly applied in downhole tubular components, packers, and other subsurface equipment. This material is included in API 5CT as Group 2, Grade L80, Type 13Cr, and its yield strength and hardness are controlled to meet NACE MR0175 requirements.

While 13 Chrome L80 offers effective resistance in mildly corrosive conditions, its performance can be limited by factors such as pH, chloride concentration, temperature, and H2S content. According to NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, it is recommended for environments with a maximum H2S partial pressure of 1.5 psi and a pH ≥ 3.5 (refer to Table A.19).
